LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP women's soccer generated plenty of offensive opportunities Wednesday night but could not find the back of the net, falling to Lock Haven, 1-0, at Hubert Jack Stadium.
The Crimson Hawks (6-5-4, 6-5-3 PSAC West) outshot Lock Haven 17-9 and put nine attempts on goal, but Bald Eagles goalkeeper Devon Mason stopped all nine shots to preserve the shutout.
IUP controlled much of the offensive pressure in the opening half, firing eight shots while limiting Lock Haven to three. The Crimson Hawks put five of those attempts on goal, forcing Mason into five first-half saves.
The game remained scoreless into the second half before Lock Haven broke through in the 64th minute. Sydney Linus scored her second goal of the season at the 63:06 mark to give the Bald Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
IUP continued to push for the equalizer, generating nine second-half shots and putting four on frame, but Mason turned away each opportunity.
Carolina Gutierrez paced the Crimson Hawks with four shots, while Zoe Ans-Bitchoka and Paige Fausey added three apiece. Ans-Bitchoka put two attempts on goal, while Ava Geishauser also placed both of her shots on frame.
IUP goalkeeper Kiley Hassinger played all 90 minutes and made three saves. The Crimson Hawks finished with a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks and held Lock Haven without a corner for the match.
The loss split the regular-season series between the teams after IUP earned a 2-1 victory over Lock Haven in Indiana on Sept. 16.
IUP returns to action Saturday, traveling to California (Pa.) for an 11 a.m. PSAC West matchup.
