JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The IUP women's volleyball team battled through five sets on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to Pitt-Johnstown after entering the match on an 11-match winning streak.
The Crimson Hawks (12-4, 6-1 PSAC) had won 11 consecutive matches dating back to Aug. 30 before the Mountain Cats prevailed in the deciding fifth set.
Jessica Neiman led the IUP attack with 15 kills, while Delaney Concannon added 11 kills and a team-high 12 digs for a double-double. Sammy Stephens gave the Crimson Hawks a third player in double figures with 10 kills while also leading IUP at the net with three blocks.
IUP continued to utilize both of its setters, with Maddie Zechman handing out 18 assists and Ellie Rauch adding 16. Rauch also contributed seven digs and two service aces.
The Crimson Hawks finished the match with 50 kills, six service aces and seven blocks.
Pitt-Johnstown hit .230 for the match compared to .137 for IUP and finished with 13 blocks as the Mountain Cats held off the Crimson Hawks in the deciding set.
IUP has won 11 of its last 12 matches and remains near the top of the PSAC standings at 6-1 in conference play.
