PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Three members of the IUP women's tennis team completed undefeated weekends Sunday as the Crimson Hawks wrapped up competition at the two-day Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
Senior Hannah Beitat, sophomore Elina Mondani and freshman Chia Ying-Lu each posted perfect 4-0 records across singles and doubles competition, with each player earning two doubles victories and two singles wins during the weekend.
IUP followed its dominant 11-1 showing Saturday with nine more victories Sunday, finishing the weekend with 20 wins across singles and doubles play.
The Crimson Hawks were particularly strong in doubles action Sunday, going 5-1 with all six pairings facing opponents from host Carnegie Mellon.
IUP also picked up a pair of notable victories against PSAC competition during singles play. Beitat and Isabelle Oikawa Torres each defeated opponents from Slippery Rock, providing an early look at conference competition ahead of the spring championship season.
Lea Von Kozierowski battled into a third set for the second consecutive day. After dropping the opening set, Von Kozierowski responded to take the second set before ultimately falling 10-2 in the deciding tiebreaker.
The Carnegie Mellon Invitational continued a strong fall for the Crimson Hawks, who opened the weekend by winning 11 of 12 matches Saturday before adding nine victories on Sunday.
IUP will continue its fall schedule at the ITA Fall Invitational, set for Oct. 15-18 in Bloomsburg.
