Crimson Hawks overcome goalkeeper absences, blank Pitt-Johnstown 4-0

INDIANA, Pa. – What started as a tumultuous day ended with a clean sheet for the IUP women's soccer team.

With both rostered goalkeepers unavailable, seniors Adi Myers, Emma Hays and Melody Leiva stepped into unfamiliar territory Wednesday afternoon, playing out of position in net and helping the Crimson Hawks secure a 4-0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown.

IUP's back line made the transition easier, limiting the Mountain Cats to just three shots and only one attempt on goal. Myers recorded the lone save required of the Crimson Hawks' makeshift goalkeeper group.

At the other end, IUP consistently generated opportunities, putting nine of its 12 shots on frame and converting four into goals.

Sophomore Ava Geishauser led the offensive effort with the first two-goal performance of her collegiate career. The brace accounted for Geishauser's first two goals of the season and doubled her career total.

Kat Morgan continued her productive season with her fourth goal of the year, while Paige Fausey found the back of the net for the first time in her IUP career to round out the scoring.

The combination of IUP's offensive efficiency and defensive work allowed Myers, Hays and Leiva to combine for the shutout despite each playing out of position.

With the victory, IUP moved to 5-4-2 in PSAC play. All five of the Crimson Hawks' conference victories have come at home as IUP remains unbeaten in Indiana this season.

The Crimson Hawks are off this weekend before returning to action on the road at Clarion on Oct. 14.
