IUP Women's Basketball adds Daugherty as assistant coach

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP women's basketball announced the addition of Josie Daugherty as an assistant coach for the Crimson Hawks in October 2026.

Daugherty arrives at IUP after serving as an assistant women's basketball coach at Shepherd University, where she worked in several areas of the program, including recruiting, player development, scouting, practice planning and day-to-day operations.

At Shepherd, Daugherty assisted with planning and conducting practices, workouts and skill development sessions while helping implement the team's defensive system. She also conducted individual skill and film sessions and prepared opponent scouting reports. Daugherty helped guide Shepherd to its first postseason appearance in four years.

Daugherty was also involved extensively in recruiting, evaluating prospective student-athletes through film and live evaluations while building relationships with recruits. Her responsibilities included team travel, equipment and other program operations, along with mentoring student-athletes in academics, leadership and personal development.

Prior to Shepherd, Daugherty spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Fairmont State University from 2023-25. She assisted with practice planning, game preparation, player development, scouting, recruiting and team operations.

During Daugherty's two seasons at Fairmont State, the Falcons won back-to-back Mountain East Conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in consecutive seasons.

Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Daugherty spent four seasons as an assistant girls basketball coach at Wheeling Park High School. She assisted with game strategy, practice planning and player development while providing mentorship and leadership to student-athletes.

Daugherty also brings experience as a collegiate student-athlete, playing basketball at Fairmont State from 2017-19.

A West Virginia native, Daugherty earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from West Liberty University before earning a master's degree in special education from Fairmont State. She is also a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and has participated in the organization's Mentor Madness and mentor-mentee programs.
