IUP Women’s Tennis Completes Ohio Trip With Win Over Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The IUP women's tennis team closed out its Ohio road trip with a 6-1 victory over Walsh on Sunday.

The Crimson Hawks finished the weekend 2-0 while staying in North Canton, defeating Ashland on Saturday and Walsh on Sunday, and dropping just one point across the two matches.

IUP secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Two doubles contests were decided by tiebreakers, including a dominant tiebreak win at No. 1 doubles by the pairing of Maria Moskaltsova and Annemiek Sterk. Hannah Beitat and Asel Calbay added a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Singles play proved equally competitive, as three matches were decided in third-set tiebreakers at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Elina Mondani, the lone change to the singles lineup from Saturday's match, earned a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

IUP will return home to host Frostburg State on Super Bowl Sunday at the Greensburg Racquet Club. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
