WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Indiana University of Pennsylvania showed early promise in doubles play Friday but fell 5-2 to Niagara University in nonconference women's tennis action.
The Crimson Hawks gained early momentum by winning two doubles flights. Maria Moskaltsova and Annemiek Sterk earned a convincing win at No. 1 doubles, while Ifigeneia Kafka and Lea von Kozierowski secured a tiebreak victory at No. 3 doubles to give IUP the early advantage.
Niagara answered in singles play, capturing five of six matches to secure the team victory. Isabelle Oikawa Torres delivered IUP's lone singles win with a straight-sets performance.
Despite the final result, the Crimson Hawks displayed strong doubles chemistry and competitive singles efforts as they continue their nonconference schedule.
