IUP Women Face Gannon With Division Title on the Line

INDIANA, Pa. -- The IUP Women's Basketball team conclude the regular season with their second top ten matchup of the season against Gannon. Tipoff is set for 1:00PM inside of the KCAC.

Most recently, IUP suffered their second loss of the season against California (PA). Gannon defeated Clarion on the road by a margin of 25-points. Winner of this contest clinches the No. 1 seed in the PSAC West division.

>> At this point in his tenure, head coach Craig Carey owns a .752 winning percentage, ranking second in program history behind Tom McConnell whom posted a .798 winning percentage through eight seasons.
>> IUP holds the second-most accurate offense in the entirety of Division II. The Crimson Hawks wield an uber-efficient .507 field goal percentage.
>> IUP's 79.7 PPG on offense is ranked second in the PSAC and eighth nationally. Defensively, IUP's 57.2 PPG allowed on defense is among the top three in the conference.
>> IUP looks to clinch the No. 1 seed with a victory against Gannon, which would be the first time in Carey's tenure with the Crimson Hawks.
>> The Crimson Hawk's scoring margin of +22.5 leads the PSAC and ranks fourth in Division II.
>> IUP's previous contest against Gannon concluded with IUP's third ranked victory of the season. Ellie Wilkerson and Nyshae' Weaver led the team in points, tied with 17-points.
>> Two Crimson Hawks have been extremely efficient, landing in the top-ten FG% in the PSAC. Weaver's .586 FG% is ranked second while Maggio's .510 FG% is ranked sixth in the conference.
>> Maggio's 3-PT shooting is nothing but impressive. Maggio's .386 3-PT FG% lands second in the PSAC.
>> Maggio's 51 3-PT FGs made throughout the season is fourth most in the conference.
>> Nine Crimson Hawks average a minimum of 10 minutes-per-game.

GANNON AT A GLANCE
IUP welcomes the Lady Knights to the KCAC who hold an overall record of 25-3 and a share the same conference record of 17-2 with the Crimson Hawks. Gannon most recently defeated Clarion on the road in a comfortable 85-60 blowout. Currently holding the number one spot in the PSAC West, the winner of this contest will clinch the number one seed going into the PSAC tournament.

Leading scorer for the Lady Knights is senior guard Bri Claxon. Leading the way with 16.1 PPG, Claxon also grabs an average of 3.1 rebounds per game and has accumulated 42 steals so far this season.

SERIES HISTORY
IUP leads the all-time series 30-22 since their first matchup dated in 1983. The Crimson Hawks have held the advantage recently, winning the last three of five contests. IUP looks to sweep Gannon in the first time since the 2019-20 season.

RED-HOT PRECISE OFFENSE
IUP ranks second in the PSAC in overall offense and seventh in Division II, averaging 79.7 points-pergame. Bearing the second-most efficient offense in Division II, IUP holds an extremely efficient .507 team field goal percentage. Nyshae' Weaver leads IUP and ranks second in the PSAC with a .586 FG%. Teresa Maggio is not so far behind Weaver in the PSAC, ranked sixth with a .510 FG%.

DILIGENT DEFENSE
The Hawks also find themselves among the top three in the PSAC in points allowed per game. Surrending only 57.2 points per game. Coach Carey's elite defensive doctrine ensures that no team can respond with ease. IUP's scoring margin of +22.5 is best in the PSAC and fourth-best around Divison II.

CRASHING THE GLASS
The Crimson Hawks have been excellent rebounding and preventing opponents from rebounding. As a team, IUP grabs 40.5 REB/G, which puts them third in the PSAC. Defensively, IUP has completely denied opponents of any second-chance opportunities. IUP allows only 27.3 rebounds per game which ranks first in the PSAC. IUP's rebounding margin of +13.2 is fourth best in Division II.

GENEROUS PLAYMAKING
Ontop of IUP's elite scoring and rebounding, Coach Carey ensures that the ball gets through the hands of every player on the court. The Crimson Hawks as a team average 16.64 assists per game, toppling the rest of the PSAC. IUP's 416 total assists accounted for ranks second in the PSAC, one assist shy of first. Four Crimson Hawks have accumulated 50+ assists, leading the group is Marin Miller who is responsible for 70 assists.

SURPLUS SCORING
One fact is certain for IUP, there is no lack of consistent scoring. Five Crimson Hawks have all recorded 10 or more games of 10+ points. Weaver, Ellie Wilkerson, and Maggio have also recorded a combined seven performances of 20+ points. Wilkerson broke her previous scoring record with a 23-point performance against Millersville.
