INDIANA, Pa. — Indiana (Pa.) used power at the plate and a strong outing in the circle to sweep Pitt-Johnstown in a PSAC West doubleheader Sunday, winning 8-5 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2.
In the opener, IUP's offense came alive with timely extra-base hits and clutch swings throughout the middle innings.
Jaycee Haidze delivered the biggest blow, launching a two-run home run as part of a multi-RBI performance. Ruby Singleton added a strong day at the plate, scoring twice and contributing to multiple rallies. Brianna Pusateri also crossed the plate and helped spark a key scoring sequence.
IUP took advantage of Pitt-Johnstown mistakes, scoring multiple runs off defensive miscues while maintaining pressure across several innings. The Crimson Hawks finished with eight runs despite limited hits, capitalizing on situational opportunities.
In Game 2, IUP combined steady offense with a dominant pitching performance from Taylor Bumgardner to complete the sweep.
Bumgardner tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three and walking two over five innings.
At the plate, the Crimson Hawks were led by a balanced attack. Ruby Singleton went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, continuing her strong day. Madison Pikula also finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI at the top of the lineup.
Cameron Ponko provided the key early swing, delivering a two-run single in the first inning to give IUP a quick lead. Singleton later added an RBI single to extend the advantage.
IUP finished with eight hits in the nightcap, getting contributions throughout the lineup while stranding just five runners.
With the sweep, the Crimson Hawks improved to 11-13 overall and 2-2 in PSAC West play, while Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
