IUP rallies in doubles, rolls past Fairmont State 6-1

INDIANA, Pa. – Indiana (Pa.) and Fairmont State Falcons have been among the top teams in the Atlantic Region in recent seasons. The two programs met on the courts on Maple Street on Saturday afternoon, with IUP earning a 6-1 victory in a match filled with momentum swings.

The Falcons grabbed the early edge in doubles play, leading in two of the three matches and appearing poised to secure the lone doubles point. Isabelle Oikawa Torres and Charliz Tabili were first to finish, earning a 6-1 win, but Fairmont State held leads in the other two matches.

Momentum shifted when Annemiek Sterk and Maria Moskaltsova mounted a comeback at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-6 in a tiebreak decision to give IUP the point.

The Crimson Hawks carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. Nationally ranked player Lea von Kozierowski secured a key victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Fairmont State's top player 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

The win marked the 100th career victory for head coach Andrew McGlashen and served as an important regional result for the Crimson Hawks. IUP advanced to the Atlantic Region championship match last season, while Fairmont State finished ranked No. 4 in the region.

IUP returns to the Maple Street courts on Sunday to host Seton Hill Griffins in its first PSAC match of the spring season. First serve is set for noon.
