INDIANA, Pa. – It was a rivalry matchup Saturday afternoon as nationally ranked Slippery Rock women's lacrosse visited Cignetti Field at Miller Stadium and delivered a strong offensive performance, defeating IUP while holding the Crimson Hawks to five goals.
IUP's five goals came from five different players, as Alexi Crosby opened the scoring at the 10:32 mark of the first quarter to tie the game at 1-1. Slippery Rock responded with four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead by the end of the opening quarter.
The halftime score stood at 10-2 in favor of Slippery Rock, with Julia Steere adding IUP's second goal of the game.
Slippery Rock extended its lead with four goals in the third quarter and added one more in the fourth.
Macenzie Haragos, Leah Moyer and Lauren Riggs accounted for IUP's final three goals.
The Crimson Hawks hit the road Wednesday to face Lock Haven Bald Eagles. Lock Haven enters at 4-3 overall and 1-1 in PSAC West play. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
