INDIANA, Pa. — IUP softball extended its PSAC West winning streak to six games, improving to 6-2 in conference play after an 0-2 start, with a doubleheader sweep of Edinboro on Monday.
The Crimson Hawks run-ruled the Fighting Scots in both games, winning 13-5 each time. Senior second baseman Madison Pikula also reached a career milestone, recording her 200th hit in Game 1 with a single to left-center field.
In Game 1, IUP used two explosive innings — a seven-run frame and a five-run outburst — to power the victory. The Crimson Hawks finished with 14 hits, including two doubles.
Madison Booth earned the win in relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits over two innings to improve to 4-0.
In Game 2, IUP scored three runs in each of the final four innings after trailing 3-1 following the top of the third.
Pikula added her second double of the day and hit her first home run of the season. Fellow senior Jess Cekada delivered a bases-clearing triple to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Taylor Bumgardner earned the win, her seventh of the season, allowing five earned runs on nine hits over six innings.
IUP will be on the road in the coming weeks, with its next home game scheduled for April 17. The Crimson Hawks continue PSAC play Friday at Clarion. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
