SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Indiana (Pa.) softball split a doubleheader Friday against Shippensburg University, falling 9-1 in the opener before bouncing back with a 10-2 victory in game two.
The Raiders used a five-run third inning to take control of game one and went on to score in every inning except the first in the five-inning contest. IUP's lone run came in the fourth inning when Reagan Rand delivered a single to center field that brought home Brianna Pusateri.
Taylor Bumgardner started in the circle for the Crimson Hawks but suffered the loss after allowing five runs over 1 2/3 innings. Madison Booth pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in relief.
IUP responded offensively in the second game, erupting for seven runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 9-1 lead. The Raiders added a run in the fifth, but the Crimson Hawks closed out the run-rule victory in the sixth.
Kendall Young earned her second win of the season, pitching all six innings and allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four.
The Crimson Hawks tallied five extra-base hits in the win, highlighted by a three-run home run from Delaney Patella — her third of the season. Ruby Singleton and Erin Drotos each added two RBIs as part of the offensive surge.
IUP continues its road swing Saturday in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, where it will face Shepherd University at 10:30 a.m. before taking on Frostburg State University at 1 p.m.
