IUP Baseball Falls in First Two Games at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Indiana (Pa.) baseball team dropped the first two games of a four-game series against Ohio Dominican University, falling 9-6 in game one and 16-1 in game two.

In the opening game, a five-run fourth inning helped IUP take a 5-1 lead. The Crimson Hawks' offense was sparked by RBI from the first three hitters in the lineup, while center fielder Erik Rhodes drove in two runs with a triple during the big inning.

However, Ohio Dominican University responded with seven runs across the fifth and sixth innings, including a five-run surge in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim the lead.

Cayden Bender, Devon Boyles and Teague Hoover each recorded two hits for the Crimson Hawks. Boyles added two doubles while batting in the leadoff spot.

Senior Derrick Shields started on the mound for IUP and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five home runs. Jake Detwiler was charged with the loss.

Game two proved more difficult for the Crimson Hawks, as Ohio Dominican University scored at least four runs in three separate innings on the way to a 16-1 victory. The Panthers outhit IUP 16-1 in the contest.

IUP used 25 players in the game, including eight pitchers, with Cameron Copple taking the loss to move to 1-1 on the season.

The Crimson Hawks will look to bounce back Monday when they conclude the series with a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican University.
