Crimson Hawks stay hot with sweep of Fighting Scots

EDINBORO, Pa. — The IUP softball team continued its dominant run in PSAC play, sweeping Edinboro in a doubleheader while outscoring the Fighting Scots 26-0.

IUP won Game 1, 17-0 in five innings, and followed with a 9-0 victory in six innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, a 12-run second inning put the game out of reach. Madison Pikula led the offense, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored from the leadoff spot. She recorded a double and a home run.

Jess Cekada added a 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs and three runs scored, including a home run. Reagan Rand, the reigning PSAC West athlete of the week, also homered.

IUP finished with 18 hits, with six going for extra bases.

Kendall Young pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing one hit and striking out four.

In Game 2, Taylor Bumgardner recorded her third consecutive shutout, earning her team-leading 13th win of the season. She allowed one hit and struck out seven.

Rand hit her second home run of the day, a grand slam as part of a four-run third inning. Delaney Patella also added a home run.

IUP will look to continue its momentum Sunday with a doubleheader at Gannon. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
