INDIANA, Pa. — IUP softball officially clinched the PSAC West regular-season title Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Seton Hill, defeating the Griffins 17-2 and 9-5.
The Crimson Hawks used an offensive outburst in Game 1 to secure the division crown, piling up 18 hits in the five-inning victory. IUP scored in every inning played, including a seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Junior Kendall Young earned the win, allowing just two earned runs on five hits while striking out five batters.
Six of IUP's nine starters recorded at least two hits in the opener, helping the Crimson Hawks cruise to the run-rule victory.
Game 2 started slower, but IUP's bats came alive with an eight-run fourth inning to build a 9-4 lead. Seton Hill added one more run late, but the Crimson Hawks held on for the 9-5 win.
Taylor Bumgardner earned her 16th win of the season, tossing a complete game while allowing six hits. All five runs scored by Seton Hill were unearned.
IUP added 10 more hits in Game 2, finishing the day with 28 total hits across the doubleheader.
The Crimson Hawks will travel to Binghamton, New York, next week for the PSAC Tournament.
