BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — IUP women's tennis saw its bid for a sixth consecutive PSAC Tournament championship come to an end Saturday as Slippery Rock defeated the Crimson Hawks 4-0 in the conference final.
The loss snapped IUP's 15-match winning streak and came against the same opponent the Crimson Hawks had defeated in each of the previous five PSAC championship matches.
Slippery Rock secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by scores of 6-4 and 6-3, respectively.
In singles play, the top three Slippery Rock players defeated IUP's top three lineup spots to clinch the match. At No. 4 singles, Asel Calbay and Alissia Aleksandra Kivi won the first set 7-6 before closing out the second set 6-2.
IUP held leads in the three unfinished matches, each by one set to none, but could not overcome Slippery Rock's strength at the top of the lineup.
The Crimson Hawks will now await their NCAA Regional fate, with the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
