GREENSBURG, Pa. – IUP women's volleyball opened PSAC West play in convincing fashion Friday night, sweeping Seton Hill, 3-0, at the McKenna Center.
The Crimson Hawks earned victories of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-17 to improve to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The victory extended IUP's winning streak to seven matches.
Delaney Concannon and Kyra Schmidt paced the IUP attack with eight kills apiece, while Sammy Stephens added seven. Schmidt hit .318 on 22 attacks, while Stephens was highly efficient with a .417 hitting percentage on 12 attempts.
IUP's defense at the net proved to be a major difference in the match. The Crimson Hawks finished with eight total blocks compared to just two for Seton Hill. Jasmine Sires led IUP with five blocks, while Charlotte Potvin and Stephens added three apiece.
The Crimson Hawks also held a 9-6 advantage in service aces. Concannon and Ellie Rauch recorded three aces each, while Potvin added two. Rauch also tied Concannon for the team lead with eight digs.
Seton Hill finished with two more kills than IUP, 32-30, but the Crimson Hawks forced the Griffins into 28 attack errors and a .040 hitting percentage. IUP committed 15 attack errors and hit .185 for the match.
The opening set was the closest of the night, with IUP holding off Seton Hill for a 25-23 victory. The Crimson Hawks followed with a 25-22 win in the second before putting together their strongest offensive set of the match in the third.
IUP hit .333 in the final frame with 11 kills and just three errors, while holding Seton Hill to an .088 hitting percentage to close out the sweep.
