SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The IUP women's soccer team battled Slippery Rock scoreless for more than 80 minutes Saturday before a late goal lifted The Rock past the Crimson Hawks, 1-0, in PSAC West action.
Slippery Rock's Abby Paterline broke the scoreless tie in the 82nd minute, providing the lone goal of the afternoon and ending IUP's two-match winning streak.
The Crimson Hawks entered Saturday coming off consecutive victories over Lock Haven and Seton Hill, including a 1-0 shutout of the Griffins on Wednesday.
IUP goalkeeper Sarah Gatz helped keep the Crimson Hawks within striking distance throughout the match, making six saves.
Slippery Rock held a 14-5 advantage in total shots and put seven attempts on goal. IUP generated two shots on frame, with Zoe Ans-Bitchoka and Carolina Gutierrez each testing The Rock goalkeeper.
The Rock also held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks, but the IUP defense continued to keep Slippery Rock off the scoreboard until the closing stages of the second half.
IUP entered the match having allowed just seven goals through its opening eight contests while recording two shutouts.
The Crimson Hawks were unable to find an equalizer over the final eight minutes as Slippery Rock closed out the one-goal victory.
The setback moved IUP to 3-3-3 overall and 3-3-2 in PSAC West play.
