INDIANA, Pa. – A pair of freshmen delivered their first collegiate goals as IUP women's soccer knocked off No. 14 Gannon, 2-1, on Saturday at South Campus Field, securing the first victory of the Kernell Borneo era.
Zoe Ans-Bitchoka and Ayla Cook provided the offense for the Crimson Hawks, scoring the first two goals of their collegiate careers to hand the nationally ranked Golden Knights their second consecutive PSAC loss.
Ans-Bitchoka opened the scoring with a chip from approximately 25 yards out, providing IUP with its first goal of the young season.
Cook later delivered the eventual game-winner. Following a scramble in front of the net, the ball settled at the freshman's feet and she buried the opportunity to put the Crimson Hawks ahead.
IUP made the most of its opportunities offensively. Gannon held a narrow 6-5 advantage in total shots, but both of the Crimson Hawks' shots on goal found the back of the net.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Gatz made one save on two shots on goal to help preserve the victory.
The Crimson Hawks also kept a dangerous Gannon attack in check. The Golden Knights entered Saturday after recording 31 shots in a match against Clarion last week but were limited to six total attempts against IUP.
The victory marked Borneo's first as IUP's head coach and the Crimson Hawks' first PSAC win of the season. It also marked IUP's first two goals of the 2026 campaign.
IUP improves to 1-2 in PSAC play, while No. 14 Gannon falls to 1-2 in conference action with its second loss of the week.
