INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team opened its fall season this weekend, hosting the annual IUP Crimson Hawk "Brad Hanes" Invitational at the Maple Street Courts.

The tournament featured six schools and 11 men's and women's programs competing throughout the weekend.

Freshman Chia Ying Lu highlighted the weekend for the Crimson Hawks, earning her first collegiate victory Saturday in her first event representing IUP.

Lu was one of several Crimson Hawks to find success in singles action. Lea Von Kozierowski, Charliz Tabili, Ifigeneia Kafka, Elina Mondani and Hannah Beitat also picked up singles victories Saturday.

IUP also found success in doubles play, with Beitat and Mondani teaming up for a victory over their opponents from Saint Francis.

The annual home invitational served as the opening event of IUP's fall schedule as the Crimson Hawks begin preparations for their next competition.

IUP returns to action Sept. 12-13, traveling to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, for the Bucknell Invitational.
