For over 50 years, Indiana Country Club has served as the home of the IUP golf team, as well as the annual IUP-Cecil Spadafora Golf Invitational in April.

On, July 7, 1919, the Indiana Country Club was incorporated as a non-profit organization.  The charter stated, "The club is to be devoted to the cultivation and encouragement of outdoor athletic sports and indoor social enjoyment.”  There were 200 charter members.

The Indiana Country Club property was purchased in the name of E.E. Wells for $13,500; $3,500 in cash and $10,000 via a first mortgage.  The original club charter authorized capital stock of $50,000 in the annum.  Dues during the first year, 1919, were one-half of the regular dues: $25.00 for resident members and $12.50 for non-resident members.

Mr. L.F. Swinter was awarded the contract to build the original clubhouse in July, 1919.  This bid was accepted at $21,684.  The original clubhouse remained relatively unchanged until the men’s locker  room was modernized in 1948.  Again in 1953, the original clubhouse was remodeled with the enclosing of the sun porch and various other improvements.

In 1977, the present clubhouse was completed providing members with a modern, updated facility to complement the challenging enjoyable golf course.  The mortgage on the facility was retired on May 23, 1986.

Land adjacent to the Indiana Country Club was purchased from three avid golfing families in 1966, and after two years of extensive study, survey and planning, ground was broken for a second nine holes in 1969.  Two years later one of the finest eighteen hole golf courses in western Pennsylvania was in operation.

Today, the club hosts IUP athletic golf outings as well as the annual Nell Jack Classic, which supports women's athletics at IUP.
