Anthony Rebyanski enters his seventh season as an assistant coach under Jeff Ditch and is in charge of the IUP pitching staff. In addition, Rebyanski serves as the baseball recruiting coordinator.
In 2013, Rebyanski helped guide starting pitcher Stephen Cooke to a 8-2 record with a 2.00 ERA in 11 starts.
Under Rebyanski, the Crimson Hawks have tallied over 20 wins in each of the past seven years, including 27 wins a year ago. Much of IUP’s success in 2012 can be attributed to starting pitcher Cooke, who was named to the All-PSAC West First Team for the second time in three seasons under the guidance of Rebyanski.
In 2011, Rebyanski directed an IUP pitching staff that featured an entirely new starting rotation and several freshman playing key roles that helped the Crimson Hawks reach the PSAC tournament for the third time in four years and advance to the championship game for the first time since 1990.
The 2010 pitching staff produced three All-PSAC West performers and was instrumental in the Crimson Hawks’ PSAC West Division Title. Pitchers Steve Mondschein and Stephen Cooke were named All-PSAC West First Team while Corey Betz was a Second Team selection.
Since 2007, Rebyanski has seen five pitchers named to the All-PSAC West First Team, two to the All-PSAC West Second Team and two to the North Atlantic All-Region Team.
In addition to his position at IUP, Rebyanski is in his third season as manager of the Butler BlueSox of the Prospect League, a summer league for college players aspiring to reach the professional level.
Rebyanski saw his 2012 BlueSox break 15 team records, nine individual records, and three league records as they recorded their best overall finish in franchise history at 33-26. He was also selected as manager for the 2012 Prospect League All-Star game.
Since taking over the BlueSox in 2011, Rebyanski has seen 11 of his players selected to participate in league All-Star Games, while three of his pitchers have been ranked in the top six in the league’s overall earned run average category.
Rebyanski spent the summer of 2010 in Thomasville, North Carolina, where he joined the staff of the Thomasville HiToms of the Coastal Plain League. Serving as the pitching coach for the HiToms, Rebyanski guided two of his pitchers to selections in the CPL All-Star game.
Prior to joining the IUP coaching staff, Rebyanski’s first stint as an assistant coach came during the spring of 2006 at Indiana high school, where he served as an assistant coach on the varsity team. He helped the 2006 Indians earn a WPIAL playoff berth.
A graduate of Indiana High School, Rebyanski pitched at IUP from 2002-05. He was honored as the PSAC West Rookie of the Year in 2002 and his name appears throughout the school’s record book, ranking fourth in career strikeouts with 163 and tied for third with 30 starts. He was honored as the inaugural IUP Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2005 after posting a 3.14 cumulative grade point average. Rebyanski earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications Media from IUP in August 2006.
Rebyanski’s professional baseball career began in 2005 when he was drafted in the first round (seventh overall) by the Gateway Grizzlies of the Independent Frontier League. He pitched two seasons for the Grizzlies before being traded to the Windy City Thunderbolts in May 2007.
While pitching for the Thunderbolts, he was named to the 2007 Frontier League North All-Star team and helped his team win consecutive league championships. His combined professional stats from the 2005 to 2008 seasons included 99 appearances, eight wins and two saves while striking out 141 batters in 110 innings pitched.
