Anthony Zambotti enters his fifth year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Crimson Hawks. He will continue his role as serving as the teams pitching coach for the 2021Â season.
In 2019, Zambotti saw senior pitchers Jeff Allen and Colin Claus solidify their names in the IUP record book to conclude their collegiate playing careers. Notably, Allen finished his career with 223 career strikeouts (third all-time) while Claus finished with 183 career strikeouts (sixth all-time). Â
During the 2018 season, he saw his pitching staff decrease their numbers in numerous categories from the previous year, including hits allowed, earned runs, strikeouts and triples allowed.
In his first year in 2017, he oversaw a pitching staff that helped lead IUP back to the PSAC Championship Tournament for the first time in six years. Pitchers made improvements in many categories that year, including team earned run average, opponent batting average, walks allowed and home runs allowed.
The former IUP baseball standout and IUP Athletics Hall of Famer is noted as one of the best pitchers in the history of the baseball program. Upon his graduation in 2003, he ranked first or tied for first in three career statistical categories, while also ranking in the top six in three others.
As IUP’s all-time strikeout king, his 332 strikeouts are also second in the history of the PSAC. Zambotti was a three-time All-PSAC West first team selection, PSAC West Player of the Year as a senior (2003) and Rookie of the Year (2000). His name is etched in the IUP record book in numerous career and single season statistical categories:
