Alex Humphreys

Alex Humphreys joins the IUP men's basketball coaching staff for his firsts season in 2023-24, recently completingĀ a successful tenure at his high school alma mater Maryville High School in Maryville, Tennessee under Wes Lambert.

Prior to coaching, Alex played basketball at Wheeling University in West Virginia where he earned a place on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, the MEC Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, andĀ All-MEC Academic Team honors. He was also chosen to represent the basketball team on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and graduated in the spring of 2023 with a 3.5 GPA and a bachelor’s degree in business.

During the 2020-2021 season at Wheeling, Alex played under WVU Sports Hall of Famer and NBA Draft Pick Da’Sean Butler, who currently serves as Assistant Coach for the WVU Mountaineers.

Prior to his time at Wheeling, Alex played at Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City from 2017-2019 where he started all 29 games during his sophomore campaign averaging 12.7 points per game. During his sophomore season he ranked 10th in the country in three-pointers made with 86. Alex's career accomplishments include a career high 32-point game against Bronx Community College, 9th all-time leading scorer in school history, and his 131 career three-pointers in two years secure the second spot in school history. He was voted team captain both seasons by his teammates and coaches and led the team to its first-ever back-to-back conference titles while achieving the highest national NJCAA ranking in school history of number twoĀ in the country. He achieved First Team All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Tournament Team honors finishing the year with 23 double-figure scoring games and 38 career starts.
