God Shammgod Jr.

Shammgod Wells enters his third season as an assistant coach for the IUP men's basketball program in the 2021-22 season.

Wells wrapped up his first season in 2020, helping the Crimson Hawks go 28-2 with PSAC West regular season and PSAC tournament titles. IUP earned the No. 1 seed - and hosting responsibilities - for the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship, unfortunately the season came to a premature end due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wells helped coach All-American and PSAC West Athlete of the Year Malik Miller. He also helped sophomore Armoni Foster earn all-district recognition and Ethan Porterfield win PSAC West Freshman of the Year honors.

Wells came to IUP after spending last season on the staff of his alma mater Fairmont State.

Wells worked closely with head coach Joe Mazzulla on offensive coordination or a Falcons squad that advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships and finished with a 22-9 overall record. Fairmont State averaged over 84 points per game, hitting the 90-point mark on 10 occasions.

Wells also worked closely with All-Mountain East Conference selections Jason Jolly, Vonte Montgomery and Kenzie Melko-Marshall. He scouted opponents and ran film sessions and was also in charge of individual workouts and weight lifting.

Wells returned to Fairmont State after spending the 2017-18 season as a graduate manager for the Youngstown State men's basketball team and its player development program. He also worked with Rob McClanaghan (Rob Mac Basketball) helping NBA players Elfrid Payton and Patrick Patterson.

Wells was a four-year starter at Fairmont State helping the Falcons to a 102-29 record, three NCAA tournament appearances, and a berth in the 2017 Division II National Championship. He's the program's all-time leader with 569 assists and 237 steals and finished with 895 points.

Wells graduated from Fairmont State in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in 2017 and is enrolled in graduate school at Youngstown State.
