Hanoj Carter

Hanoj Carter begins his third season as as an assistant coach for the IUP men’s and women’s track & field programs for the 2023-24 season. He specializes in sprints, jumps and hurdles.

Carter has been instrumental in helping the IUP track & field programs rebuild the roster as a dedicated recruiter.

Cater has worked with PSAC champion and All-American sprinter Kendall Branan, named the PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the year in March 2023. IUP had seven CSC Academic All-District honorees in 2022-23, and both teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic squads. In addition to Branan's All-PSAC honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons, Justin Egizio (400m) and Cassidy Kline (400mH) were All-PSAC honorees at the 2023 outdoor conference championship meet.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to be apart of IUP’s cross country and track and field programs,” said Carter. “IUP combines elite athletics and academics with outstanding leadership, in a very competitive conference. When I spoke to head coach Joey Zins, I was immediately impressed with his vision and passion for athletics and track and field.”

Carter comes to Indiana from the high school ranks in the track & field-rich state of Louisiana, where he helped lead Saint Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette to three straight district titles. He helped two Cougars earn high school All-American status and coached several athletes to Louisiana state championships.

Prior to his coaching career, Carter was a Division I All-American at both Northwestern State and at Louisiana Lafayette. A sprinter, Carter won three titles in the 200 meter dash at Sun Belt indoor and outdoor championships while competing for UL Lafayette (2015-17). He also graduated as the school record holder in several events, including the 100 meters with a time of 10.19. He also won a pair of Southland Conference titles in the 200m at Northwestern State in 2013.
