Ethan Bare

Ethan Bare is in his second year at IUP as director of strength and conditioning, overseeing the training and performance programs for all 19 varsity sports. He works directly with the Crimson Hawks' football, women's basketball, women's volleyball, baseball and softball programs.

Bare is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a USA Weightlifting Level 2 Coach (USAW-L2) and a Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) specialist.

Prior to arriving at IUP, Bare served on the strength and conditioning staff at the University of New Hampshire. He joined the Wildcats as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in January 2023 before being promoted to associate director of strength and conditioning in July 2023. At UNH, he worked directly with men's basketball, men's and women's track and field, and women's lacrosse while assisting with football. He also served as the program's graduate assistant and intern coordinator and directed the department's sports science initiatives.

Bare began his collegiate coaching career at Tufts University in August 2021 as a graduate assistant before being promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coach two months later. During his tenure, he oversaw the performance training for 11 varsity programs, including women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's squash, men's and women's rowing, men's and women's swimming and diving, sailing, and women's fencing. He also assisted with football, men's lacrosse and men's ice hockey while serving as the department's graduate assistant coordinator. During the 2022 football season, Bare additionally served as the team's volunteer offensive line and tight ends coach.

Earlier in his career, Bare completed strength and conditioning internships at Robert Morris University, Boston College football and Louisiana Tech football, gaining experience with a variety of Division I athletic programs.

Bare earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Geneva College in 2020, where he played football, before completing a Master of Science in exercise and sport science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Merrimack College in 2022.
