Emily Briggs moves into the role of Facilities Director for IUP Athletics on December 19 after spending the last 2-plus seasons as an assistant coach for Crimson Hawks women's basketball. Prior to coming to IUP, Briggs served as the graduate assistant coach at PSAC West rival Cal after finishing her playing career with the Vulcans.

Briggs will oversee the daily athletic game operations for all sponsored use of IUP facilities, including scheduling of varsity practices and games, as well as coordinate the attendance of security and maintenance at each event. She will also have supervision of the Memorial Field House weight room and the locker rooms in both Zink and the Field House.

As the women's basketball assistant sine the 2009-10 season, Briggs worked diligently with the Crimson Hawks post players, assisted in overseeing the team's academic progress, coordinated team travel and camps and served as the primary liaison for the Swish Club and director of the Susan G. Komen “Shoot for the Cure” Classic as well as other community service projects.

Briggs was a graduate assistant coach at California (Pa.) during the 2008-09 campaign after concluding her playing career with the Vulcans the previous season. While coaching at California, Briggs served as the academic advisor to the women's basketball team, managed film exchange, produced newsletters and recruiting brochures and assisted with team camps, fundraising and travel coordination.

On the floor, she coached the team's forwards and helped the Vulcans win their second consecutive East Region title and trip to the Elite Eight.

She began her college career at Winthrop University in South Carolina and played two seasons with the Eagles, appearing in 33 games with six starts her sophomore year. She returned home with her transfer to California and was a mid-season addition to the Vulcan roster as a senior in January 2008.

In addition to her coaching experience, Briggs was a graduate assistant in the Vulcan sports information office from January to May 2008 and completed an internship with U.S. Sport Management in Charlotte, N.C., during the fall 2007.

Briggs graduated magna cum laude from California in December 2007 with her degree in sport management and completed her master's degree with honors in exercise science and health promotion with an emphasis on sport psychology in August.

Briggs is from Washington, Pa., and was a standout player at Chartiers-Houston High School. She scored more than 1,900 points in her career as well as exceeding the 1,000 plateau in rebounds.
