Howard Magee

Howard Magee enters his 16th season on the IUP women's soccer coaching staff in 2020. This will be his sixth season back on the staff in his second stint with the Crimson Hawks after taking a season off in 2014.

Magee served as a volunteer coach for three seasons from 2004-2006 before being formally named Adel Heder's assistant coach in July 2007.

Magee helped the Crimson Hawks to a 10-9 record in 2019. He saw sophomore forward Mahogany Willis lead the PSAC in goal scoring en route to All-PSAC First-Team honors, and an All-Region Selection. Magee helped the 2019 squad  earn a PSAC conference tournament playoff berth, building on the their 9-8-1 record from 2018. the 2018 season saw senior Kallie Conte, senior Hannah Stoof and freshman Mahogany Willis earn All-PSAC honors, while Conte also earned an All-Region selection. 

In 2017, Magee helped guide the Crimson Hawks to one of the program's better seasons in recent history, including a 12-6 overall record and 14th all-time trip to the PSAC tournament. The highlight of the season came on Sunday, Oct. 15 when the Crimson Hawks upset No. 2-ranked Kutztown 1-0 on the road. They handed the Golden Bears their first loss of the season, ending a streak of 13 straight wins, and is believed to be the highest-ranked victory in the 24-year history of the program. 

With Magee on the staff, the Crimson Hawks have turned in several outstanding seasons, including appearances in nine straight PSAC tournaments from 2004-2012. The 2004 team won a school record 19 games, captured the PSAC tournament title, reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history and had a final national ranking of No. 24.

The following year, IUP won the first of its two straight PSAC West titles. In 2006, the Crimson Hawks reached the finals of the PSAC tournament and won an NCAA tournament game for the first time in school history to advance to the round of 16. IUP was ranked No. 15 in the final national poll.

In 2008, IUP reached the PSAC championship game. The following year, the Crimson Hawks advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history, including a win over fifth-ranked West Chester in the second round.

Magee has been involved in soccer in western Pennsylvania for over 20 years at the recreation, travel, premier and college levels. He was one of the founding directors and coaches for the Kiski Area Soccer League and coached the Kiski Area High School girls for the first two years of the program and then assisted with the boy's program for one year.

Magee was the director of coaching for 12 years for the Pittsburgh Strikers Premier girls program and coached both boys and girls during that time. The 1992 U-17 girls and 1993 U-18 girls were Pennsylvania West state champs. While with the Pittsburgh Strikers, Magee served on the Pennsylvania West board as a Premier and Classic league director.

Magee attended St. Vincent and played midfield for the Bearcats for two seasons. He retired in 2004 from Allegheny Technologies, where he was an ironworker for 32 years. Magee and his wife, Debbie, are the parents of sons Mark and James and reside in Vandergrift.
