Pete Hoyer

Pete Hoyer enters his second season as an assistant coach for the IUP women's volleyball program in 2023.

Alongside his wife, head coach Lo Hoyer, IUP posted a 20-9 mark in 2022 while making the program's first PSAC and NCAA Tournament appearances since 2017. The Crimson Hawks had a trio of All-PSAC honorees in Lauren Valentic, Nicole Peterson and Caroline Walsh, while Valentic received AVCA All-Region honors in 2022.

Hoyer has over 37 years of experience and has coached Power 5 NCAA Division I volleyball, middle school volleyball, high school volleyball, high level club volleyball, and Division I NCAA mid-major volleyball.

Hoyer comes to IUP after a successful stint as the head coach at Southern Utah University. Southern Utah University had the two best seasons in school history, including the highest regular season finish, best overall win percentage as a Division I program and the first post-season win while under the direction of Coach Hoyer. In 2012, he was part of a staff that took North Carolina State University to its first NCAA tournament since 1987 and in 2001 he was named A10 Conference coach of the year.

Coach Hoyer has won 60 percent of his matches as a head coach, and coached over 20 All-Conference players throughout his career.
