Mara Penner

Penner is in her first year at IUP as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach while also serving as a graduate assistant in the Department of Exercise Science.

Penner works directly with the Crimson Hawks' field hockey, men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's cross country programs while assisting with football and other Olympic sports. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

A 2026 graduate of Commonwealth University–Bloomsburg, Penner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in strength and conditioning and human performance. During her time at Bloomsburg, she gained experience through several internships and volunteer positions in sports performance and physical therapy.

Most recently, Penner served as a strength and conditioning intern at Bucknell University, where she worked with every varsity sport. She also collaborated with coaches on sports science initiatives, utilizing VALD force plates and wearable technologies, including PlayerData and Polar Team Pro, to monitor athlete performance and inform training decisions.

Prior to her time at Bucknell, Penner worked as a personal trainer and health and wellness coach at Bloom Health and Fitness and Rivers Crossing YMCA.
