Samantha Goettman enters her ninth year as an administrator in the IUP Athletic Department in the fall of 2020. She's served as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Women's Administrator since September 2015 and was IUP's Interim Director of Athletics during the 2018-19 academic year.
As the Assistant AD and SWA, Goettman provides leadership for all compliance matters as they relate to the NCAA, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), and all other governing body rules and regulations (recruiting, personnel, financial aid, eligibility, etc.). She is a content expert on current rules and regulations of the NCAA, conference, and University that may influence the operation of the intercollegiate athletics program.
Additional duties and assignments that fall under Goettman's current position, include serving as the departmental liaison and advisor with the University, PSAC, and NCAA for rule interpretations and eligibility; investigating possible rules violations, reporting violations, and appeals for student-athletes; providing interpretations of NCAA and conference rules for the athletic department and affiliated departments that engage in the student-athlete clearance process; communicating with departmental staff to clarify interpretations and report any activity which might be construed as a violation of rules and regulations; assisting with investigations, certifications, internal and external audits.
As the liaison to to IUP's Title IX Coordinator, she coordinates annual mandatory Title IX and Protection of Minors training for our student-athletes.
Goettman serves on several institutional, conference and NCAA committees, including the Intercollegiate Athletic Compliance, Athletic Gender Equity, President's Athletic Advisory, and Hall of Fame Committees. She also serves as the Softball and Men's Basketball liaisons for the PSAC, and is on the PSAC Championships and Officiating Committees. Goettman was also named to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Committee in the summer of 2018.
Prior to her current appointment, Goettman served as IUP Athletics' Assistant Compliance/Business Officer and SWA, working with former Associate AD Frances Nee. Goettman held that position for three years starting in September 2012. Prior to that, she was the graduate assistant under Nee from January 2011 until August 2012.
Goettman was a four-year starter at catcher for the Crimson Hawks softball team from 2007-10. She played in 169 career games and finished her career third all-time in school history with 22 home runs. A two-time All-PSAC selection (2008-09), she helped IUP to an NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship appearance in 2010, ultimately falling to conference rival Bloomsburg in the final.
The former Samantha Goettman graduated from IUP in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration with a minor in Business. She earned her Master's in Business Administration in August 2012 and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Administration and Leadership Studies at IUP.
Goettman grew up in Mars, Pa. as the daughter of Skip and Cindy Goettman. She attended North Allegheny High School where she was part of a WPIAL AAAA softball championship and state runner-up team as a senior in 2006. She was inducted into the North Allegheny Hall of Fame in 2016.
