Steve Roach was named IUP’s Director of Athletics in December 2015. Roach, an IUP alumnus and Indiana, Pa. native, previously served as the Interim Director of Athletics from January 2015 through December 2015.
Roach oversees the day-to-day operations of the IUP Athletic Department and the 19 varsity sports that the University Sponsors. Roach also serves on the President’s Athletic Advisory Committee, the IUP Institutional Athletic Compliance Committee, the Athletic Gender Equity Committee, and as the Chair of the IUP Athletic Hall of Committee. In addition to his day-to-day duties, Roach also serves as a member of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Atlantic Regional Advisory committee and previously served as the PSAC Baseball Liaison from 2009 -2016.
Prior to his role as Director of Athletics, Roach served as the Associate Director of Athletics/Compliance at IUP from 2013-2015. In this role, Roach oversaw all aspects of compliance including rules education, eligibility, financial aid and recruiting. Prior to his time at IUP, Roach served as the Associate Director of Athletics (Director of Compliance) at Millersville University. In addition to his compliance responsibilities at Millersville, Roach also served as the sport supervisor for the baseball, softball, women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball programs, as well as serving as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor.
Roach started his career in intercollegiate athletics as the Assistant Athletic Director at Slippery Rock University where he served as the Director of Compliance and Facilities. Roach also served as a member of the NCAA DII Baseball Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee from 2007-2009.
In addition to his time in athletics, Roach previously worked as an adult probation officer in Indiana County from 2001-2004 after earning his bachelor’s degree from IUP in 2001 in Criminology. In May 2005, Roach earned his Master’s degree in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University.
Roach resides in Indiana, Pa.with his wife Molly and are the proud parents of two daughters: Nora and Reagan.
