Junior safety Takhi Turner has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, October 2.
This is Turner's first IUP weekly award, earning it after helping the eighth-ranked Crimson Hawks to a come-from-behind 47-39 victory over Seton Hill at home on Saturday night. Turner posted a career-high 14 tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage, intercepted a pass and broke up another.
The interception, his first of the season, came at a key point in the fourth quarter as IUP clung to a 40-39 lead with Seton Hill driving. The pick led to a Crimson Hawks touchdown to extend their lead in the final minutes.
Turner also played a key role on a huge special teams play, getting the ball on a lateral after a blocked point after try, before flipping it to Steve Franco, who returned it 66 yards for two points. Those points were the first of 19 unanswered for IUP in the comeback win.
