Junior middle-distance runner Austin Cooper was named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the IUP Sports Information Office on Monday, May 15.

Cooper earned his second IUP weekly honor of the spring season as he ran a personal-best time of 3:49.64 in the 1500 meters at Allegheny College's Gator Invitational on Friday afternoon. It was an NCAA provisional time and was good for second place overall as Cooper raced to improve his chances at qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships next week in Florida.
 
The three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion in the 1500, his time of 3:49.64 is the second fastest time ran in the Atlantic Region and 40th best in Division II this season.
 
It's Cooper's fifth IUP Athlete of the Week nod of the 2016-17 year and seven of his career.
