IUP Doubles Slippery Rock in Shots but Cannot Pull Out PSAC West Victory

Trish Morris had two defensive saves for the Crimson Hawks

Boxscore

IUP held a 16-8 advantage in shots but could not put one in the Slippery Rock goal in dropping a 2-0 decision in a PSAC West game Tuesday.

The Crimson Hawks fell to 5-5 and 1-3 in the PSAC West while the Rock won for the second time in 11 games and are also 1-1 in the division. IUP had won 18 in a row over Slippery Rock dating back to the 1998 season.

Slippery Rock took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Skylar Brosse with 8:21 left in the first half. It stayed that way into intermission when Rock goalie Lisa Belcastro stopped consecutive shots by Shannon Sullivan (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) and Anouk Sickman (Antwerp, Belgium/Lazac Cellepe) in a 10-second span late in the half.

IUP had 11 shots over the opening 35 minutes, but Belcastro kept the Crimson Hawks off the board with nine saves. Slippery Rock added an insurance goal with just over 10 minutes remaining when Katie Krouse got one past Laura Brust (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen).

Brust made two saves in goal for IUP, and Trish Morris (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) had a pair of defensive saves.

The Crimson Hawks return to the field next Tuesday with a home game vs. Mansfield beginning at 4 p.m.
