Anouk Sickman (Antwerp, Belgium/Lazac Cellepe) scored three goals and
Shannon Sullivan (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) had a pair, including the game-winning tally 12 minutes into the second half, giving IUP a 5-2 victory over Mercyhurst in a PSAC West game Saturday in Erie.
The Crimson Hawks evened their PSAC West record at 1-1 and are 3-4 overall. The Lakers dropped to 2-6 and 1-1 in the conference.
Sullivan's first goal of the game snapped a 2-2 tie with 11:48 expired in the second half and led to a three-goal IUP explosion over the final 23 minutes. Sullivan has three goals on the year with two of them being game winners.
Sickman scored her third goal 12 minutes later off an assist by
Jillian Duld (Allentown/Parkland), and Sullivan put the finishing touches on the victory when she took a pass from Sickman and found the cage at the 62:10 mark.
Sickman's three goals give her a team-leading eight this season. She took 15 of IUP's final total of 31 shots compared to only five for Mercyhurst. The Crimson Hawks also held an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Tesa Ramsdell gave the Lakers a quick 1-0 lead when she scored just 4:35 into the game, but Sickman tied it up with 13:04 left in the first half and then scored again less than two minutes later to give IUP a 2-1 lead.
Mercyhurst scored right at the end of the first half on a penalty corner goal by Katie Erbacher, making it a 2-2 game at intermission despite IUP dominating play, including a 17-3 edge in shots.
Lydia Dolly (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was the winning goalie for the Crimson Hawks, making three saves. Ashley Wiskup played the first 65:25 in goal for Mercyhurst and was credited with 14 saves.
IUP plays again Sunday with a non-conference game vs. Bellarmine at Miller Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
