Crimson Hawks Use Balance to Knock Off Fairmont State

The IUP women's volleyball team overcame a slow start to defeat visiting Fairmont State 3-1 Friday at Memorial Field House.

IUP (20-8) dropped the first set 25-22, but roared back to take the next three 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.

Laura McFadden (Orefield, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Kadie Koeneman (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) each tallied double digit kills with 11 and 10 respectively. Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) added nine kills and Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic) chipped in eight kills and four blocks.

Emily Pany (Coplay, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) used 27 digs to move into second place in PSAC history with 2,564 just nine behind the career leader Dawn Peipher of East Stroudsburg. Sarah Alman (Indiana/Indiana) triggered the IUP offense with 33 set assists.

The 20 wins for IUP marks the first time they have won 20 games or more under head coach Zach Shaver and the first time since 2005.

The Crimson Hawks return to action Saturday when they travel to Gannon in a PSAC matchup.
