Harvie Tuck rushed for 190 yards and reached 1,000 on the season

Final Stats

IUP scored three touchdowns in a span of 2:32 in the third quarter to break open a close game, Harvie Tuck (Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) reached the 1,000-yard mark for the season and Terrell Washington starred on defense and special teams to lead the Crimson Hawks to a 63-31 victory over Lock Haven Saturday at Miller Stadium.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for IUP, which evened its record at 5-5 and finished 3-4 in the PSAC West. Lock Haven lost its 31st in a row and is 0-10 and 0-7 in the PSAC West. IUP increased its winning streak over the Bald Eagles to 29 and has not lost to Lock Haven in Indiana since 1961.

Tuck carried 29 times for 190 yards and became the 10th player in IUP history to reach 1,000 in a season, finishing the day with 1,002. The sophomore running back has rushed for 408 yards in two games vs. Lock Haven.

The Bald Eagles, who were averaging only 9.9 points per game entering the contest, pulled within 21-16 with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter when quarterback Jarrett Kratzer scored on a 1-yard sneak to cap a 15-play, 76-yard drive.

It took only 1:47 for the Crimson Hawks to match the score when Tuck went in from 20 yards out, triggering the three-touchdown outburst that decidedly changed the game in IUP's favor. On the first play of the ensuing Lock Haven possession, Washington stepped in front of a Kratzer pass and went untouched 33 yards for a touchdown that made it 35-16.

Washington was the star again after the kickoff, sacking Kratzer for a 10-yard loss and then blocking a punt to set IUP up at the Lock Haven 3. Teddy Blakeman (Penn Hills/Penn Hills) went in on the next play to push the Crimson Hawk lead to 26 points.

Kratzer kept the Bald Eagles within striking distance with touchdown passes of 44 yards to Jay Hartman and 65 to Jesse Hoover, with IUP scoring on a 1-yard run by Blakeman in between to leave the Crimson Hawks in front 49-31 with 8:16 left in the game.

Mark Jackson (Canton, OH/McKinley) blocked a punt to set up a 21-yard touchdown run by James Jackson, and Washington rounded out the scoring with his second interception return for a score, grabbing a deflected pass and racing 56 yards to the end zone with 1:46 on the clock.

In addition to his two touchdowns, blocked punt and sack, Washington finished with six tackles and a second tackle for loss. Nate George (Derry, Pa./Derry) had two sacks and tied Jackson for the team lead with seven tackles, and Johnny Franco (Altoona/Tyrone) added a third interception for the Crimson Hawks.

Kratzer directed a Lock Haven offense that was averaging just 213 yards per game to 372 yards vs. IUP, completing 17 of 38 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns. Hartman caught 10 passes for 150 yards and Hoover added three catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Brader led the Bald Eagles on the ground with 63 yards on 13 carries.

IUP appeared on its way to a blowout win, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter to build a 21-7 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Bo Napoleon (Carson, Calif./Carson) hit Mychal Skinner (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) scoring passes of 5 and 30 yards, and Roy-al Edwards took a reverse 16 yards to the end zone. But Lock Haven kept the Crimson Hawks off the scoreboard the rest of the half while eventually pulling within five points.
