Millersville Box / Lock Haven Box

MILLERSVILLE, PA – Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic) had 15 kills while Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Beth Sova added 10 apiece in a four-set win over Millersville helping IUP to another split on Saturday on the second day of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) volleyball crossover in Millersville. The Crimson Hawks later fell to Lock Haven in three sets.

The points came in bunches for the Crimson Hawks in their win over Millersville, going on three four-point runs to take a 14-8 lead in the opening set. After a rally by the Marauders gave IUP just a 17-14 lead, the Crimson Hawks got hot, scoring eight of the last nine points, with kills coming from Ostendorf, Cerveny and Brooke Bailey (Clarion, Pa. /Clarion) for the 25-15 win.

It was more of the same in the second set, with IUP getting out to a 10-5 lead, before Millersville battled back with a 10-3 run to take a 15-13 lead.

After four straight points - capped by a Cerveny kill - put the Crimson Hawks back in front 17-15, the Marauders went on another run to take a 24-20 lead before ultimately winning 25-21 to tie it up.

The Crimson Hawks took an 8-3 lead in the third set, later extending it to 13-7 after back-to-back errors by Millersville. The Marauders then rallied to cut the IUP lead to 15-13 before the Crimson Hawks took over, going on a 10-3 lead to finish off the game, getting the set-winner on a service ace from Carissa Miara (Pittsburgh/West Allegheny).

It was all IUP early in the fourth set, as the Crimson Hawks took a 5-0 lead. Millersville came back though, cutting the deficit to 8-6 after a 3-0 run.

The Crimson Hawks responded with a 6-1 run, and then later went for five straight points to take a 20-12 lead. Millersville didn't back down, scoring five straight points, but IUP finished off the Marauders, scoring four of five points, with a kill by Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) sealing a 25-20 win.

Miara helped Ostendorf, Cerveny and Sova offensively, totaling 42 assists in the four-setter. The serving also helped the Crimson Hawks, with Hester getting four aces and Ostendorf and Emily Vaughn (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) adding three apiece. Defensively, Vaughn led the charge with 15 digs while Bailey added 13.

The Crimson Hawks then lost the nightcap to Lock Haven, but not without stretching the Bald Eagles to the limit. The first set ended 25-22, with the second set going 25-19 and the third set going long, with IUP losing 32-30.

Hester had a team-high 13 kills against Lock Haven, with Sova adding eight. Miara had 29 assists while Vaughn had another 13 digs.

The Crimson Hawks (9-13, 3-8), who went 2-2 during the weekend crossover, continue their road trip with a match at Fairmont State next Tuesday night.
