AKRON, OH - Ally Mitidieri racked up a second and third place finish and
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) added another second place finish as the IUP men's swimming team finished in sixth place while the women placed 10th as the Crimson Hawks wrapped up its three day trip to Ohio, competing in the University of Akron's Zippy Invitational.
Mitidieri's second place finish came in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:25.29, five seconds behind the winner, Toledo's Rachel Johnson. She came in third in the 200 breast, four seconds off of second place and eight seconds behind Laura Lindsay from Toledo, who came in first.
Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) added a pair of top 10 finishes this weekend, coming in fourth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.70 and sixth in the 100 fly with a time of 56.83. The Crimson Hawks had two finish in the top 20 of the 1650 free, with
Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) coming in 18th with a time of 17:53.47 and
Chanele Molano (Centreville, VA/Westfield) finishing one spot and :00.42 behind her.
Other top finishers for the women were
Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring), who finished 14th in the 100 back with a time of 58.31 and Emily Clark, who's time of 1:08.47 was good for 16th place in the 100 breast.
The women's 200 medley relay was their top finishing team, coming in 10th with a time of 1:47.47.
On the men's side, IUP had two relay teams with top 10 finishes, with the 400 medley coming in fifth with a time of 3:10.32 and the 800 free finishing seventh with a time of 7:02.25.
Long's second place finish came in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 49.20, less than one second behind winner Ayman Andrews from Army. Long also logged a sixth place finish, posting a time of 1:54.03 in the 200 fly.
Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) came in seventh place in the 100 free with a time of 46.53 while
Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) added another top time, finishing eighth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.08.
Other top 20 finishes for the Crimson Hawks were
Kyle Ford (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) in the 400 IM,
Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) and
Anthony Termin (Enola/Cumberland Valley) in the 200 free, and
Bobby Sciscento (Lancaster/Manheim Township) in the 100 fly.
The Crimson Hawks take a one month break, returning to the pool deck on January 10 against Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
