Crimson Hawks Fall to Rival Cal at Home

INDIANA, PA – The Crimson Hawks accumulated too many hitting errors against rival Cal as IUP fell to the Vulcans in three sets in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division volleyball match up on Tuesday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

The Vulcans (11-2, 4-0) jumped out in the opening set 6-1 before building a 10-point lead at 17-7 later in the game. A kill by Brooke Bailey (Clarion, Pa. /Clarion) followed by an ace by Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) brought the Crimson Hawks deficit to seven, but Cal finished up the set with an 8-3 run to take the opening game 25-13.

After falling behind 6-4, IUP took a three-point lead after going on a 6-1 run. The Vulcans, however, came back with five straight points, scoring nine of 11 overall to take a commanding lead before ultimately taking the set 25-20.

Set three saw Cal take an early 10-3 lead, keeping seven and eight-point leads on the Crimson Hawks throughout most of the game before winning 25-17.

Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic) finished with six kills for IUP (7-6, 1-3), which totaled 17 for the entire match. Defensively, Hester added 11 digs.

The Crimson Hawks remain at home for their next two matches, hosting Malone on Friday evening and PSAC West opponent Edinboro on Saturday.
