Box Score
SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Three first half goals by Shippensburg proved to be too much for the Crimson Hawks as IUP fell to the Raiders 4-0 in a battle between two nationally-ranked field hockey schools for the top spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division on Wednesday evening.
The third-ranked Raiders scored three times in the span of 5:42, with a pair of goals by Kristina Taylor at 10:43 and 16:25 sandwiched around a score by Lauren Taylor at 12:08.
Shippensburg held the advantage in corners and shots in the first half, getting 12 and 14, respectively. IUP goalie
Sarah Lemieux (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) did her best to control the Raiders offense, saving five shots in the opening 35 minutes.
The No. 5 Crimson Hawks held Shippensburg's offense at bay in the second half, but didn't see too many good looks on their end as the game ended with the Raiders victorious.
Brittany Varacallo (New Britain/Central Bucks South) played the second half for IUP in goal, posting a save in the cage.
IUP looks to move on as the Crimson Hawks (5-2, 2-1) host conference foe Mercyhurst this Saturday at George P. Miller Stadium.
