INDIANA, PA – Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) continued her hot streak, scoring twice and adding an assist to lead IUP past visiting Gannon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle of two regionally-ranked women's soccer teams at South Campus Field on Saturday afternoon.

Entering the game, the Crimson Hawks stood at fourth in the Atlantic Region while Gannon sat at seventh.

Kornock has scored five goals and assisted on three others in her past three games, as the Crimson Hawks have gone 3-0 and outscored opponents 13-3.

Gannon (4-2-2) got on the scoreboard first, scoring quickly as Amanda Sharbaugh put one past Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) just 5:33 into the match.

The Crimson Hawks answered quickly, tying the score less than three minutes later when Kornock knocked one in off a pass from Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson).

The offenses for both teams were strong throughout the first half, with IUP getting off 13 with Gannon getting nine. Both goalies though seemed up for the task, as Hricik and Golden Knights goalie Maggie Brinkman each saved six shots.

IUP was able to take the lead less than six minutes before halftime as Kornock found Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) on a cross for her third of the season.

The physical play for both teams began to heat up in the second half, as the Crimson Hawks added to their lead with Kornock's second goal in the 48th minute.

More physical play would only prove to benefit IUP, as the Crimson Hawks took complete control of the second half, adding a goal from Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech) off a pass from Carter Sheely (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley) in the 73rd minute.

Hricik went the entire way in the net, saving eight shots for the Crimson Hawks, who stay undefeated and improve to 6-0-1 on the year.

IUP's schedule gets tougher, hosting Edinboro, which is ranked third in the region, next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
