Crimson Hawks Show Well in Dual Meet with Shippensburg

Final Results

SHIPPENSBURG, PA - Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) set the pool record in the 100 fly, while Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) and Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) both placed first in a pair of races as the IUP men's and women's swimming teams performed well at Shippensburg Friday evening. The men were victorious 110-94, while the women fell 114-91.

Long was dominant in Butterfly, finishing in first place with a pool-record time of 49:58. His outstanding finish was just under five seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Hopkins took first place in both the 1000 free with a time of 10:01.45 and the 400 IM at 4:17.97. Anthony Termin (Enola/Cumberland Valley) kept the Crimson Hawks success rolling in the 200 Free with a first-place time of 1:47.33.

On the women's side, Mitidieri finished in first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:40.35, and also took first in the 100 breast at 1:07.52. Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:20.14, while Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring) finished in first place in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.16.

Second place finishers on the men's side were Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) in the 200 free (1:49.80), Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) in the 50 Free (22.41), Dustin Steider (Cochranton/Meadville) in the 100 fly (54.38) and David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) in the 500 free (5:02.35).

On the women's side, second place finishers included Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) in the 1000 free (11:03.66), Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) in the 50 free (24.77), Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) in the 400 IM (4:46.47) and 100 back (1:02.01), and Katie Lehman (Cary, NC/Green Hope) in the 100 fly (1:02.42).

The Crimson Hawks return home on January 27 when they host the Crimson Hawk Dual Invitational at the John A. Pidgeon Natatorium.
