Field Hockey Drops One-Goal Decision to Seton Hill

Kate Bruce's goal in the 69th minute closed the gap but IUP couldn't tie it late
Box Score

GREENSBURG, PA – IUP's second half comeback fell short as the third-ranked Crimson Hawks lost to Seton Hill 4-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic conference (PSAC) field hockey matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

The Griffins (7-9, 3-6) scored the first goal less than seven minutes into the game but a goal by Nicole Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) in the 13th minute tied the game at 1-1.

That's when the Griffins seized control of the game, breaking the tie with a goal in the 18th minute before taking a 3-1 lead with less than seven minutes left before the half.

IUP (12-4, 7-2) came out with the momentum in the second half, cutting the deficit to one when Alicia Straining (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) capitalized on a well placed pass by Bruce less than five minutes in. Seton Hill would grab that momentum right back, going back on top by two with another goal nine minutes later.

Kate Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) gave IUP late hope and she knocked in a goal off a pass from Brielle Mackey (Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) at the 68:35 mark, but the Crimson Hawks were unable to knock in the tying goal in the waning moments.

IUP has already clinched the second seed in the West in the PSAC tournament. The Crimson Hawks will host Slippery Rock twice in the next week, first in the regular season finale on Sunday before playing The Rock again next Tuesday in the conference semifinal round. Currently with a 5-4 conference mark, Slippery Rock has clinched the No. 3 seed in the division.
