Results
INDIANA, PA – A total of 33 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standards were set by the Crimson Hawks on Saturday as the IUP men's and women's swimming teams swept Edinboro in dual meet action at the Pidgeon Natatorium.
The women finished off the Fighting Scots 144-115 while the men won 141-116.
On the women's side, All-American
Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) set three PSAC qualifying times in the 200 fly, 200 breast and 200 IM with times of 2:12.86, 2:26.36 and 2:10.98, respectively.
Several Crimson Hawks had a pair of conference qualifying times, including
Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick),
Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford),
Stephanie Soracco (Ingram/PA Cyber) and
Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ). Long got hers in the 200 free and 200 back; McAteer in the 50 free and 100 free; Soracco in the 200 breast and 200 IM; and Janosky in the 500 free and 1000 free.
In addition,
Dana Steinert (Kent, Ohio/Kent Theodore Roosevelt) (200 free),
Emily Shumaker (Carlisle/Big Spring) (100 back), and
Emily Clark (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East) (100 breast) set PSAC qualifying times in their respective events.
On the men's side,
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) started his season by qualifying in both of his signature events, finishing with a 2:00.11 in the 200 fly and a :51.09 in the 100 fly.
Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) also had a nice meet, finishing with a 9:55.28 in the 1000 free and a 2:14.43 in the 200 breast, both qualifying times.
Rudy Da Costa (Durban, KZN, South Africa/Westville Boys') finished the day by qualifying in three events, including the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM.
Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del/Salesianum),
Matt Nakagama (Columbia, MD/Atholton) and
Bobby Sciscento (Lancaster/Manheim Township) each qualified in two events, with Hampel in the 500 and 1000 free, Nakagama in the 200 fly and 500 free, and Sciscento in the 100 and 200 fly.
David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) (200 free),
Alex Plimpton (Harrison City/Penn-Trafford) (200 free),
Zach Fountain (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) (100 breast) and
Alex Cummings (Altoona/Altoona) (100 breast) also each qualified for the PSAC meet.
The Crimson Hawks are back in the pool next weekend with a pair of dual meets, first at home against Shippensburg on Friday before travelling to Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.
