Crimson Hawks Fall in National Showdown with Shippensburg

Nicole Bruce scored IUP's lone goal
Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, PA - Nicole Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) notched her team-leading 13th goal of the season for the Crimson Hawks, but a penalty stroke goal sparked three goal second half for second-ranked Shippensburg as they defeated the third-ranked IUP field hockey team 5-1 on Tuesday.

Shippensburg was sharp from the opening whistle Tuesday, as Taylor Jones and Emily Kohlbus both tallied goals in the game's opening 20 minutes to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Crimson Hawks would answer before the break when Bruce rebounded her own shot and polished off the goal at the 23:35 mark, but a missed penalty stroke would preserve the 2-1 Shippensburg lead at the break.

The Raiders would have their own opporunity for a penalty stroke early in the second half, and Bre White would connect to give Shippensburg a 3-1 with under 20 minutes to play in the game.

White and Jones would each add insurance goals in the game's closing minutes to preserve the win and snap the Crimson Hawks eight-game win streak.

With the loss, IUP falls to 12-3, while the Raiders improve to 14-1 with their only loss coming to IUP earlier this season. Both teams are now locked in a tie atop the PSAC West standings with identical 7-1 records.

The Crimson Hawks return to action on October 17 when they travel to Greensburg to take on Seton Hill. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
