Three More Records Fall for IUP on Second Day of PSAC Swimming Championships

MECHANICSBURG, PA - The IUP women's 400 medley relay broke its own record while David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) and Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) posted new school marks in the 500 free and 200 IM on Friday night at the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.

With Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) leading off, the Crimson Hawks swam a 3:52.35 in the 400 relay, with Mitidieri, Kala Misavage (Danville/Danville) and Emily Shumaker rounding out the order. The finish was good enough for third place and was an NCAA "B" cut time. 

Entering the finals seeded second after the morning prelims, Mitidieri's time of 2:05.43 in the 200 IM broke Hynson's previous record by just :00.29 as she took first place for the championship.

Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) earned a fifth place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.34, :00.85 off of her school record-tying time, while Shumaker finished with a time of 24.75. Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ) earned an eighth place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:09.81 while Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) came in with a time of 5:09.13, good for 14th. The women's 200 free relay team of McAteer, Shumaker, Nicole Newman and Lauren Alshouse (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley) scored a 10th place finish on Friday with a time of 1:38.23.

On the men's side, Donovan's time of 4:39.10 broke the previous mark by just over one second as his NCAA "B" cut time was good enough for fourth place in the event. Steve Long followed him in eighth place with a time of 4:52.02 while Anthony Termin (Enola/Cumberland Valley) and Kyle Ford (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) picked up more points for IUP in the consolation race with 14th and 16th place finishes. 

Also competing individually on Friday night for the men were Zach Fountain (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) and Stewart Brown, who swam times of 1:59.85 and 2:01.75 in the 200 IM, and Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) and Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck), who finished with times of 21.76 and 22.05 in the 50 free.

The men's 400 medley relay had a nice night with a third place finish, as Conrad Kubaney (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep), Fountain, Long and Smith posted a time of 3:29.46. The 200 free relay team of McWhorter, Smith, Long and Termin finished with a time of 1:25.70, good enough for fifth place overall.

After two days of competition, the women sit in fourth place with 134.5 points while the men are currently in sixth with 133 points.

Day three gets underway Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
